Long prompts · xAI doubles the rate at 200K prompt tokens
xAI bills every token of a request at its higher rate once the prompt reaches 200,000 tokens: double the input, cached and output rates on Grok 4.7, 4.6, 4.5 and 4.3 (xAI pricing, read 2026-10-19). A price here is the same at any prompt length.

Grok API key and rate limits · at xAI and here
At xAI, sign up at console.x.ai, load prepaid credits, then open API Keys in the sidebar and click Create API Key. Requests are rejected once the credits run out. Rate limits are set in requests per second and tokens per minute, by tier of cumulative spend ($0, $50, $250, $1,000 and $5,000); Grok 4.7 starts at 150 requests a second and 50 million tokens a minute (xAI rate limits, read 2026-10-19).
Here one key calls every Grok model above and every other model on the list, from prepaid credit from $10, in the OpenAI format at our base URL. Each key carries its own requests-per-minute and concurrency limit.

- At the cached rate in the table. A model with no cached rate bills cached tokens at its input rate.
- Are there rate limits?
- Every key carries a request-per-minute limit and a concurrency limit.
- Is the Grok API free?
